What we run

Five projects, all free, plus one being built

The reverse osmosis unit indoors, blue pressure vessels and white tanksOpen daily

Free drinking water

Water Plant 1 is a reverse osmosis plant, open to anyone who walks up with a can. No card, no queue number, no charge. The unit filters the groundwater, the tanks are cleaned on a schedule and the cartridges are replaced before they are due, because water that is nearly clean is not the point.

Needed now: Filter cartridges, and diesel to keep the pump running through load shedding.

Free medical centre

The Soomro Welfare Trust Medical Centre has a doctor on duty, an examination room and a dispensary. Consultation, examination and any medicine held in stock are free. Serious cases are referred onward and the trust helps families follow up, so nobody gets lost between hospitals.

Needed now: Antibiotics, blood pressure and diabetes medicines, glucose strips.

Quran institute for women

A women only institute offering Nazra, Hifz and Tajweed, taught by female teachers in a space where mothers can bring their children. Morning and afternoon classes, so study fits around work at home. Free to join, open to any age.

Needed now: Copies of the Quran, rehal stands, a teacher's monthly stipend.

Saving stray cats

The trust feeds the colonies around the bazaar, treats injuries and infections, runs neutering drives with a visiting vet, and rehomes kittens that will not survive on the street. Anyone can call about an injured animal and someone will come out.

Needed now: Cat food, deworming and flea treatment, a carrier for transport.

Food for flood affected families

When the water reaches the villages the team loads up and goes. Cooked food first, then dry ration bags with flour, rice, pulses, oil and tea. Every family is written into the register before they receive anything, so the same households are not served twice while others are missed.

Needed now: Ration bags, cooking fuel for the field kitchen, transport costs.

Water Plant 2

A second RO plant for the villages on the far side, where families were carrying water a long way. Walls, roof and tiling are done and cans are already being filled. The photographs of every stage are below.

Needed now: The pump, plumbing and the final filtration unit.
